Here’s a little experiment. Sony’s “Slow Movie Record” technology compresses 240fps for three seconds into a buffer and then processes it for another 12 seconds resulting in a 12 second shot. It appears to process at 60i. So I edited this in Apple’s Final Cut into a 720-60p timeline, then used Apple’s cinema tools to conform the sequence into 24p, resulting in changing the already slow-motion video to a relatively smooth 40%. If my math is correct, playback is actually 6.25% of normal speed. There is a significant loss of quality, but this video also has a bit of digital zoom, you should be able to tell which shots.

I can’t seem to find them anymore at Best Buy, Fry’s Electronics, Target, Wal-Mart…so I want to find out what kind of newer batteries would be compatible with it.

I would like to buy them online, but I need them in a few days. So any suggestions would be helpful.

THANKS! :)

BATTERIES I got with this camera: http://www.superwarehouse.com/p.cfm?p=1497787&CMP=KAC-Froogle
oh ok…i just didn’t understand why they have so many different kinds or nothing at all at the stores. i just wasn’t sure if there was a difference or not. sorry…sheesh. it was just a question.
and i looked up some batteries online that i did see in the store…and it says compatible with blah blah blah…

Try Eneloop batteries. They will last a lot longer than rechargeable NimH batteries. And they are rechargeable too.

admin <![CDATA[Are Sony and Nikon cameras the same?]]> http://www.123sonycamera.com/463/are-sony-and-nikon-cameras-the-same/ 2010-09-10T01:35:19Z 2010-09-10T01:35:19Z

Of course, I do not feel that they are, but I want to hear some discussion on this. There is a common perception that "Sony makes the CCD’s and electronics for Nikon," so "why pay more just to have a nikon label on sony electronics????"

***I am NOT flaming anyone here, so please don’t get upset that I lifted a recent quotation. MANY have said this.***

I say that it may be true that Sony makes the CCD for Nikon, but Nikon writes the software in their processor to use the information that the CCD gathers. All you need to do is look at any side-by-side comparisons, such as you will find on dpreview.com, and you will see how each maker has decided to use the information. There are subtle differences.

Who makes the new Nikon CMOS sensors? Sony???
By the way, you know that I have my personal choice, but I am not claiming one brand to be better than the other in this question.

I’m just looking for open and honest discussion about how the manufacturers make different use of the same components.

I just thought the main question would get your attention…

While I personally don’t use Nikon cameras, when I’ve handled them, I’ve definitely been left with the impression that Nikon knows how to make cameras(which I guess they’d darn well better after 75 years).

Sony, on the other hand, hasn’t quite left me feeling the same way.

I’ve only ever handled the Alpha 100. My impression with it, as well as Sony Digicams, was that they were too feature-laden. Changing even the shutter speed required multiple button presses, and things like white balance and exposure compensation were buried in menus. I would rather set the clock on the VCR than attempt to use a Sony camera in anything other than "dummy" mode.

Contrast this with my beloved little Canon A540 digicam, which, when in one of the creative modes, allows direct manipulation of the shutter speed or aperture, has a dedicated button for control of exposure compensation, and can change the white balance in about three button presses.

In short, my feeling is that Sony has a lot to learn about making cameras. To be fair, the A100 is probably okay for the intended market-people who don’t know and don’t care what an aperture is, but for even the semi-serious photographer, the user interface just doesn’t cut it.

So, even if Nikon and Sony used identical lenses and identical in-camera processing to give the same result, I would still pick the Nikon based on ease of use.

admin <![CDATA[What’s up with the bloggie HD Sony video camera?]]> http://www.123sonycamera.com/462/whats-up-with-the-bloggie-hd-sony-video-camera/ 2010-09-10T01:35:14Z 2010-09-10T01:35:14Z

So I bought a Bloggie HD video camera today, and I really like it, well except the zoom and I have read alot of reviews on it and stuff, but I just don’t know if I should take it back or not. Is the flip better? I am a youtube Vblogger, and stuff so I need a good video camera, any suggestions??

Most pocket camcorders use Digital zoom which is not true Optical zoom. Digital zoom is the electronic magnification of the pixels which gives it a grainy look. You should just shoot with no zoom which will look much better. Make sure you frame up the cam close to your subject and use ample balanced lighting. That will help a lot.

If you know, can you please link a good one that is pretty cheap? If possible…
What i mean by look is the footage. Why does it look different?

professional cameras have a bigger image sensor and hence, to facilitate that, also have a bigger lens. and which ultimately requires a bigger body
