You set the camera to remote (see the manual as to how) and then aim the remote at the sensor in the camera (see the manual as to where) and press the button.

You don’t give any information about the camera, but if you go to the page the camera was on and go to specs at the bottom it should give you a list of “whats in the box” the battery was a larger capacity one than the standard.

If it takes a special battery (not something like AA) then it will come with the camera. The battery-buying option is so you can have a spare.
