Is it bad to overcharge a sony digital camera battery?

because i have heard from some people it is? i have a sony DSC-T77. please help! thanks! :)

CAUTION Do not overcharge … batteries can be severely damaged. Use an automatic two or more hour Energizer smart charger with safety timer, temperature monitor and trickle charge technology ($9.76) at Walmart. For longer life, batteries should be charged often and kept in active use.

13. Can a NiMH battery be overcharged? ↑
Using the batteries to end of life prior to charging is recommended when a timer based charger is used. A smart charger monitors the cell condition during charge and prevents overcharging and subsequent negative impact on battery cycle life.

4. What is a smart charger? ↑
Smart chargers use microprocessor circuitry to monitor battery parameters such as temperature, voltage and state of charge. This information is used by the charger to determine the most opportune time to terminate the charge. When compared to timer controlled chargers, smart chargers can typically charge the batteries faster without impacting performance.

5. What is a trickle charge? ↑
This is a low rate charge used to replenish capacity lost due to self-discharge.

No, nothing to worry about, it wont cause any kind of damage. The only batter that I know of that can "blow up" if overcharged is the LiPo battery. Just take a look at the video I linked in my sources.

It is bad to overcharge any battery and will generally lead to decreased battery life. In some instances I believe companys have made batteries that can stand overcharging with no/minimal negative effects, but in general you should be careful with them. and.. lipo batteries aren’t the only dangerous batteries out there.. you should take all batteries at least somewhat seriously

    Hi there…

FYI, any Lithium Ion (Li-Ion, which is popular for these days electronics, including DSC-T77′s battery) equipped with self-discharged ability so, it wont get overcharged. It’s different from Nickel-Cadmium (NiCd) battery.

For details, please refer to this link below.
